Therapeutic Laser Treatment
Chisholm Trail Animal Hospital is proud to offer laser therapy to our patients as a treatment for many acute and chronic pains, inflammation and wound healing. Laser therapy can be used alone or in conjuction with other treatment plans. It is a safe, non-surgical, and drug-free means of providing pain relief.
How Can It Help?
Laser therapy uses light to penetrate tissue in a process called photobiostimulation. Several studies have shown benefits in patients with the following conditions:
- Arthritis
- Muscle, ligaments and tendon injuries
- Ulcerations and open wounds
- Acute and chronic ear problems
- Post surgical pain, healing and rehabilitation
- Trauma and fractures
- Neuromuscular disease, damage or degeneration
- Neck and back pain
How It Works?
Reduced Inflammation: Laser therapy dilates the blood vessels and stumulates lymphatic circulation, helping reduce inflammation.
Pain Relief: Laser therapy increases the production of endorphins and enkephalins, which are the body's "natural pain-killers." It has a direct effect on nerce cells, including suppression of receptors that send pain signals to the brain.
Accelerated Healing: Laser therapy stimulates activity within the cells, resulting in increased oxygen, increased production of the energy molecule ATP (adenosine-triphosphate), and increased enzyme production, which helps tissue to heal more quickly. Surgical incisions and other injuries benefit from treatment with laser therapy.
